This Servant

About this servant girl…

There are many things that make me happy! My family, my schools, my friends, my faith, and list could go on and on! But here are a few things that describe me. When you know these things, reading my posts will probably make more sense to you!

So I'm glad you're here! It's nice to meet you!

I'm an Aggie, born, raised, and graduated. I love my Aggie Ring!

I love being from the South! Anything monogrammed, front porches, sweet tea, bowties, SEC football and tailgating, family, Blue Bell ice cream, Tex-Mex and Cajun food, and blessin’ someone’s heart...  love being Southern!

I like being a girlie-girl and I enjoy big cities. But I grew up raising pigs, goats and chickens outside a town, home of the East Texas Yamboree, where everyone knows your business and little old ladies gossip at the beauty shop and their husbands go to the Dairy Queen for breakfast and talk about the lack of rain and the young generation growing up not knowing hard work. Country girl at heart.

I love sitting in coffee shops listening to musicians that haven’t made it big yet.

My planner goes with me everywhere. It is color-coded and keeps me sane.

I love felt-tip pens and Le Pens are my favorite.

Watching I Love Lucy makes me relax. Audrey Hepburn movies are my favorite. Sandra Bullock is my favorite actress.

Fall is my favorite season: football, cardigans, coffee, boots... need I say more.

 Photography is fun.

Traveling is my all-time favorite thing to do!

I have a sweet kitty named Anabelle (that’s with one ‘n’).

I attend East Texas Baptist University (this precious little school surrounded by pine trees) to one day earn my Masters of Arts in Christian Counseling.

Reading is a must.

I say “This is my favorite” about just about everything.

I call my best friend DBarr (after we watched One Tree Hill religiously in high school) and she keeps me from going crazy and never judges me.

If someone told me I looked like Kate Middleton, I would probably give them a kiss.

Pool days, watching Gossip Girl and trying new restaurants with my bestie Alicen are a must.

Crafts, decorating and designing, well that’s a given.

I’m a foodie.

Cycling is a great stress reliever.

Cupcakes. Texas Rangers. Tervis Tumblers.

Hot rollers, big hair, lots of hair spray.

But there are two things that I haven’t mentioned that really make me who I am. My faith and my family.

Meet my family.

That's my momma, sister, and daddy.
Daddy: known to others as RT, Man of God, leader of our family, agriculture science teacher, president of VATAT (Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas), hunter, political activist, founder of Waterfowl Warriors, passions for hunting, mustangs, Aggies, agriculture, high-schoolers, photography, Texas Rangers, FFA, favorite movies: Man from Snowy River, Return to Snowy River, technology doesn’t really get along with him and he never remembers his password for anything. But the greatest thing about Daddy: my biggest supporter, lets me chase my dreams, shows me my Father’s love for me daily, teaches me everything I need to know from the Bible to splitting wood to old country musicians to agriculture to how a guy should treat me. He is the best ever!
The Waterfowl Warriors. That's my daddy in the middle, along with his best friends.

Aggie Rings
Momma: known to my friends as Momma D, a Daughter of the Risen King, teacher, leader, loves kids, slight obsession with Vera Bradley, has two masters degrees, likes her coffee with lots of cream and sugar, a mother to lots of kids at her school, AM Radio listener, still spoiled by her daddy, loves any type of football, beautiful singer, educator. But the greatest thing about Momma: she is always right there when I need her, lets me cry whenever I need to, the most selfless person I know, shows me the need for grace daily, never judges me, has taught me how to be a lady in this world while being a beautiful Daughter to my Risen King. She is my favorite person!

She's fun!

Sister: known to everyone else as Haygan, basketball star, tall and skinny, naturally curly hair, great style, Gilmer FFA 2nd Vice President, driver of Lucia (the black Jeep Liberty), collector of monkeys, slight obsession with Tim Tebow, baseball lover (or maybe just boys in baseball pants), my personal stylist, great laugh and smile, great taste in music, complete opposite of me, doesn’t own a planner, doesn’t take naps, lover of sweet tea, hasn’t had a soda in over two years, crafty, beautiful voice but won’t sing in front of people or if the music isn’t loud enough, always closes the sun-roof in the car. But the great thing about Sister: teaches me the importance of forgiveness, best listener, teaches me to be healthy and fit, will always have my back, my partner in crime, my safest confidant, teaches me the importance of positive attitudes and thankfulness. She is the bomb.com!

The most important thing: my faith.

I pray that from the way I talk to you, listen to you and interact with you shows what I believe. I serve a beautiful God who created this beautiful world and the beautiful you. But we aren’t always beautiful, are we? I was a broken messy sinner in need of a savior. (At the time I didn’t know I was that broken or that messy.)

“Lift your eyes and look to the heavens; Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength not one of them is missing.” Isaiah 40:26

“But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions- it is by grace you have been saved.” Ephesians 2:4-5

Cool thing is that this beautiful God sent His son to make me beautiful and pure. His son, Jesus, paid the plenty for all my sin. All of it. Crazy thing is that He gives me the choice to accept Him (realize I’m a sinner, realize I can’t do any of this (life) on my own and I need forgiveness) and He gives me eternal life and forgets about my sins! Crazy cool, right!?

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is a gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13-14

I submit my life to Christ. Give Him everything and every area of life I place in His hands, and in return I get freedom! (Weird, I know: submit everything and get freedom, but that’s just how awesome our God is!) God’s grace covers me. I have to ask for it daily; I’m far from perfect. But His unconditional love, mercies, and grace await me each morning. He is faithful!

“But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 5:20b-21

“Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.” Psalm 90:14

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

A beautiful picture of this is adoption. When a family (a dad and a mom) adopts a child, that child has absolutely nothing to give them and needs so much for them. That dad and mom have a love for the child that will never change. They will love their child no matter what (yes, disappointment might come at times, but the love is always there). Isn’t that what our Father does!? He takes us in. We have nothing to offer, but He loves us!

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

So yeah, I’m a Christian. Growing daily. Seeking the Lord.

Something I’ve seen far too many times is this: in today’s society Christians are quick to judge and some churches don’t do a good job accepting people and being a place of worship. I’m so sorry for that.

 That literally hurts my heart.

When Jesus was here on earth, I’m pretty sure He hung out with those we (or I should say I) overlook most of the time. The poor, sick, needy, prostitutes, orphans.

“Jesus said, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick…For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Matthew 9:12-13

I love showing His love through my life. I pray that you will see this. I love talking about my Jesus. He is so cool!

I pray that I never judge you. Just love you.

Do I believe I’m a sinner and mess up? Yes, daily. Do I believe there is salvation and eternal life? Yes and yes! Do I believe in grace? Yes, it’s what makes life unfair. Will I judge you if you believe different then me? No, by God’s grace; I will share with you though the beauty of a relationship in Christ. Is being a Christian neat, easy, and perfect? No, but that’s part of grace and His unconditional love. Is my life perfect? Haha. HECK. NO. Do I care if you say “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas”? Nope.

So the reasoning behind the title of my blog, Just A Servant Girl, should be evident now. I’m my Father’s servant. Living my life in the freedom of Christ. I’m His servant. Humbly.

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves….Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:…but made himself nothing, taking on the very nature of a servant…he humbled himself and became obedient to death- even death on a cross!” Philippians 2:3-8

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27
